Games Design facilities

The Games Design community at Brunel is a collaborative and supportive environment for students of all levels.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students are taught in the same space allowing for a lot of useful knowledge and ideas to be exchanged. Our academics are also here and have an open door policy – so you can easily call on them when you need help. This environment creates a creative and inclusive hub for everyone.

At Brunel University London there is everything you need to ensure you have a happy and successful time while studying Games Design.

24/7 games lab

You will have 24/7 access to the games lab which has fully loaded PCs just for games students. We've found that having out-of-hours access to our labs is excellent for building a community spirit amongst our gaming enthusiasts and for allowing our students to work and play together.

There are also Wacom Bamboo drawing tablets, an arcade machine, Xboxes, PlayStations, the latest consoles and retro consoles and games, and an Oculus Rift.

The software and hardware are regularly upgraded and well-maintained and all students at Brunel get free Microsoft 365.

Dedicated games room and flat room

There is a dedicated games room which houses a massive board games archive. This room has consoles and computers and may be used for quiet study too. The games room also houses the weekly board game evening - a popular event attended by students and gaming staff.

We also have a room dedicated to design. This is a flat room with tables and whiteboards that students can use to explore and expand their ideas in a practical way.

We are working on expansion and are looking for space to house an array of older technology and to expand our student space. Games Design students are able to access sound recording rooms and camera equipment as well as practice rooms and other similar facilities.

Highly-rated library

During term time the highly-rated Brunel University library is open 24/7 so you can make use of all the different study environments. There are over 400 networked PCs as well as several powered study spaces where you can connect your own devices.

As a Brunel student you will also have access to the Laptop Loan Scheme. This allows you to borrow laptops that act in a similar way to the desktop PCs. You can connect to the university’s wireless network to access your personal drive, the internet and self-service printers. You can use these laptops anywhere on campus so you can find a study space that suits you best.

There are also dedicated subject-specific librarians to help you with your research and study needs. They will support you and help you to develop your information and research skills so that you always have access to high quality, up-to-date information sources.
