Computer and Software Recommendations
A personal laptop is not required for School of Media and Communication students but is highly recommended. Computer labs with required software are available in College Hall, but students who rely only on school equipment may need to complete assignments outside of class hours.
Before purchasing a computer, review the recommendations for your program below.
Choosing a Laptop
The school recommends an Apple laptop, but students may also use a Windows laptop. A minimum three-year support warranty is recommended when available.
Students working extensively with video editing, motion animation or photography should consider a higher-performance computer.
Software
Adobe Creative Cloud
Students are responsible for purchasing their own Adobe Creative Cloud subscription
when needed. Adobe Creative Cloud is also available on classroom and lab computers
in College Hall.
Microsoft Office 365
Available to Southern Miss students through iTech and installed on classroom and lab
computers.
Avid Pro Tools
Available in designated College Hall classrooms and computer labs.
